The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, according to the publication calendar, presents the Balance of Payments statistics for March 2025.

Balance of payments– The first quarter of 2025 was characterized by a current account deficit of 373.26 million euros, which represents an increase of 17.62% compared to the same period last year. This increase in the current account deficit is mainly the result of the deepening of the deficit in the trade balance.

Trade balance of goods– by the end of March 2025, it recorded a deficit of 1.29 billion euros, representing an increase of 22.35% compared to the same period of the previous year. Exports during this period reached 204.96 million euros, marking a decrease of 3.46%, while imports of goods reached 1.49 billion euros, representing an increase of 18.01%.

Services account– which constantly has a positive balance, at the end of March 2025 reached the value of 372.07 million euros, which represents an increase of 37.15% compared to the same period last year.

Primary income– in the first quarter of 2025 they recorded a positive balance of 81.33 million euros, compared to 25.38 million euros in the same period of the previous year, reflecting an increase of 220.48%.

Secondary income– remain the main contributor to the mitigation of the current account deficit. During this period, this account recorded a positive balance of 458.88 million euros, representing an increase of 5.09% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Remitances– constitute the main category within secondary income. By the end of March 2025, their value reached 291.27 million euros, marking an increase of 3.65% compared to the same period in 2024. According to preliminary estimates, remittances for April 2025 were 111.66 million euros, bringing the total value for the first four months of 2025 to 402.93 million euros. Even during April, the majority of remittances were received through NBFI (55.47%), followed by commercial banks (15.79%) and other channels (28.74%).

Assets in the financial account– in the first quarter of 2025, they recorded a negative balance of 64.65 million euros, while financial liabilities recorded a positive balance of 245.69 million euros.

Direct Investments in Kosovo– during this period, they reached a value of 223.88 million euros, which represents an increase of 4.06% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, direct investments outside Kosovo recorded a value of 73.15 million euros, representing an increase of 96.29% compared to the same period in 2024.

Reserve assets– by the end of March 2025, they recorded a negative balance of 18.84 million euros, almost the same value as the same period last year (18.70 million euros). This dynamic was mainly influenced by changes in deposits and the maturity of investments in securities.
