The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, alongside with his associates welcomed the Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH Office for Kosovo, Mr. David Oberhuber for a meeting with his associate.

During the meeting, Governor Ismaili briefed Director Oberhuber on key developments and reforms in the financial sector, the advancement of the legal and regulatory framework, emphasizing the stability and strong performance of the financial sector, as well as the legal initiatives undertaken by the CBK for financial inclusion, access to finance and financial literacy.

Following the meeting, the CBK Governor informed Director of the GIZ Office Kosovo about the pre-application process for membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) with the European Commission, as well as the project for the advancement and modernization of the payment system—an important initiative in achieving the CBK’s Strategic objectives and Plan.

The Governor highly appreciated the cooperation with German regulatory authorities, while underlined the excellent cooperation with the Deutsche Bundesbank, and the excellent cooperation with the Bundesbank in the management of Kosovo’s international reserves and support within the Eurosystem. Also, Mr. Oberhuber was thanked for the cooperation and support provided by GIZ Kosovo for reforms to advance the regulatory framework and build institutional capacity.

As part of this meeting, discussions were held on the possibilities of continuing cooperation between the two institutions in concrete projects that support the financial system, particularly in the field of payment digitalization, advancing technology for the digitalization of cash management processes in line with the technology used by central banks in the Eurosystem, in efforts to enhance financial inclusion, combat counterfeit money, and improve financial education.

At the end of the meeting, the Governor expressed his deep gratitude to the German people and authorities for their continued support. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance cooperation in line with legal mandates and public interest.
