The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, held an official meeting with the Chairperson of the European Banking Authority (EBA), Mr. José Manuel Campa, at the EBA’s headquarters in Paris.

During the meeting, Governor Ismaili presented the latest developments in Kosovo’s financial sector, including key CBK projects aimed at strengthening financial stability, reforming banking supervision, modernizing the payment infrastructure, and enhancing consumer protection. He also provided an update on Kosovo’s pre-application process for membership in SEPA, as well as recent progress on the project for establishing a real-time payment system in cooperation with the Bank of Italy.

The discussions focused on opportunities for institutional cooperation to align the regulatory framework with European Union standards, as well as in other areas such as financial stability, banking supervision, consumer protection, crypto-assets, digital finance, and cybersecurity.

Particular emphasis was placed on the potential support from EBA for the CBK in harmonizing its legal and regulatory framework with the EU acquis in the banking sector, within the context of the equivalence project currently being developed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Governor Ismaili expressed his gratitude for the realization of this first high-level visit and highly appreciated EBA’s support and contribution to strengthening CBK’s institutional capacities. He also reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to further advancing cooperation in the development of a prudent regulatory framework, sound market practices, and the protection of financial service consumers.

The CBK remains committed to efficient cooperation with European Union institutions to harmonize regulations with the aim of integrating into the EU’s financial markets and system.
