The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, along with Deputy Governor Ms. Nesrin Shileku-Shala, held a meeting with the new Ambassador of Hungary to Kosovo, H. E. Mr. László István Dux, accompanied by Mr. Áron Kerékgyártó, Economic and Trade Attaché, during which the Ambassador was briefed on key developments in the financial sector, the advancement of the legal and regulatory framework, and the stability and integrity of Kosovo’s financial system.

Governor Ismaili began by congratulating Mr. Dux on his appointment, emphasizing the positive cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy so far, and expressing gratitude for Hungary’s continued support for Kosovo’s economy. This support has come through various cooperation programs and, more specifically, through Hungary’s role in the financial sector, including the Central Bank of Hungary’s involvement as part of Kosovo’s constituency at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

He then briefed Ambassador Dux on the CBK’s actions in preparation for Kosovo’s anticipated application to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), mentioning also the current challenge caused by the pending constitutional review of financial sector laws, as well as progress on the project to establish a fast payments system – TIPS Clone, which is expected to boost both efficiency and financial inclusion in the country.

The meeting also covered internal institutional reforms underway at the CBK, focused on strengthening organizational capacity and improving internal governance in line with recommendations from international partner institutions.

Governor Ismaili thanked Hungarian institutions, particularly within the framework of the European Union, for their ongoing support of CBK’s efforts to strengthen the integrity of Kosovo’s financial system.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation, supporting CBK’s progress in aligning its legal framework with EU standards, and aiding Kosovo’s integration into relevant European mechanisms.
