Governor Ismaili Participated in the International Conference on Advancing the Accounting and Auditing Profession

The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, participated in the international conference organized on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Society of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo, under the theme “25 Years of Advancing the Profession: From Foundations to Transformation.”

In his opening remarks, Governor Ismaili emphasized the importance of the accounting and auditing profession in strengthening transparency, financial accountability, corporate governance, and confidence in the financial system. He commended the contribution of professional organizations in the field to building professional capacities and enhancing financial reporting standards in Kosovo.

Governor Ismaili stressed that, for the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, high-quality financial reporting, independent auditing, and sound corporate governance are essential elements for financial stability, market integrity, and trust in the financial sector.

“A resilient financial system relies not only on adequate capital and strong liquidity, but also on reliable information, accurate financial statements, and professional auditing. In this context, external auditing and high-quality reporting remain important instruments for strengthening market discipline and financial supervision,” Governor Ismaili emphasized.

During his speech, the Governor highlighted that the CBK has continuously advanced its regulatory, supervisory, and reporting framework in line with international standards and European best practices, increasing its focus on risk-based supervision, governance, risk management, and the expansion of reporting requirements alongside improvements in the quality of financial reporting.

He added that Kosovo’s financial sector remains resilient, well-capitalized, and characterized by sound indicators, while preserving this resilience requires a high degree of transparency, reliable reporting, professional auditing, and continuous interinstitutional cooperation.

In this regard, Governor Ismaili emphasized the importance of cooperation among the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, the Ministry of Finance, the Kosovo Council for Financial Reporting, the Tax Administration, professional organizations, the academic community, and the private sector, with the aim of addressing common challenges and further advancing professional standards. He reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to strengthening institutional and professional cooperation, in line with the CBK Strategic Plan, which identifies cooperation and institutional coordination as one of the key priorities for advancing its objectives.

In the concluding part of his speech, Governor Ismaili also addressed the transformations affecting the accounting and auditing profession, including technological developments, digital finance, the use of artificial intelligence, sustainability reporting, and ESG factors. He emphasized that these developments create new opportunities while also requiring updated competencies, strong professional ethics, and the preservation of the fundamental principles of integrity, independence, competence, and public responsibility.

The CBK remains committed to further advancing its regulatory and supervisory framework in support of financial stability, the integrity of the financial sector, transparency, and alignment with European standards.
