Prishtina (May 19th, 2026) – The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), in cooperation with the Kosovo Banking Association and representatives of commercial banks, held a workshop focused on the implementation timeline and technical preparations related to the TIPS Clone instant payment platform, the implementation of the new Law on Payment Services, as well as operational preparations for future SEPA integration.

The workshop brought together representatives from the CBK, the banking sector, and international experts engaged in payment systems modernization projects. Discussions focused on operational readiness, technical coordination, cybersecurity, interoperability, liquidity management, fraud prevention measures, cyber resilience, and alignment with European payment standards and regulatory frameworks.

Particular emphasis was placed on close coordination between the CBK, banks, non-bank payment service providers, technical service providers, and international partners to ensure efficient, secure, and sustainable implementation of the next phase of Kosovo’s payment infrastructure modernization and regulatory reforms.

Deputy Governor for Banking Operations, Mr. Dardan Fusha, emphasized that the modernization of payment systems and implementation of the new payment services framework represent among the most important transformation projects for Kosovo’s financial sector, directly contributing to faster, safer, more accessible, and more efficient financial services for citizens and businesses.

“The implementation of instant payments, the upgrade of KIPS, the implementation of the new Law on Payment Services, and the technical preparations for SEPA integration represent important steps toward further alignment of Kosovo’s financial infrastructure with European standards and the development of a more modern, interoperable, inclusive, and efficient payment ecosystem,” stated Mr. Fusha. He further emphasized that these reforms are expected to strengthen financial inclusion, expand access to digital financial services, support competition and innovation in the payments market, while further enhancing oversight, operational resilience, cybersecurity, and consumer protection across the financial sector.

The CBK remains committed to continuing close cooperation with the banking sector, non-bank payment service providers, local institutions, and international partners throughout the implementation of projects related to payment systems modernization, financial inclusion, and European financial integration.
