The delegation of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), headed by the governor Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, during its visit to Washington D.C., met with the director for the Western Balkans, Europe and Central Asia of the World Bank (WB), Mrs. Xiaoqing Yu and senior executives Mr. Pesme, Mr. Natarajan, country manager for Kosovo and Mr. Paolucci and his associates.

The meeting was focused on considering the possibilities for the functioning of the technical infrastructure necessary for access to the EU instant payment system, relying on the best practices applied by the central banks of the Eurosystem.

Also, they discussed the possibilities of financing and the development of the infrastructure of the payment system in order to facilitate instant local and cross-border payments.

This meeting was attended by the governors and deputy governors of the Central Bank of Montenegro and Albania, as well as the technical team of the World Bank, which supports the countries of the Western Balkans in the regional project for the modernization of the payment system and the application for the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

The parties agreed on close technical cooperation in order to operate the technical infrastructure that supports SEPA access and integration into European Union payment systems, as the ultimate common goal.

On this occasion, Governor Ismaili thanked the WB team for their continuous support to CBK, welcoming the engagement for financing and technical assistance for the implementation of this project.

This meeting also concluded the visit of the CBK delegation as part of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, held in Washington, D.C.
