Banknotes and counterfeit euro coins in Kosovo

Based on the latest reports received by the Kosovo Agency for Forensics in the first half of 2019, a number of 656 banknotes and 2,184 counterfeit coins were identified, which were withdrawn from circulation and the amount was about 65,695.00€ and 3,244.45€ respectively. Most of these banknotes and coins were confiscated by financial institutions during their regular activity.

Similar to last year, in the first half of 2019, the most counterfeit banknote was the 100 euro denomination, which accounted for about 73.3% of the total number of counterfeit banknotes withdrawn from circulation. Denominations in the amount of €500, €200 and €50 accounted for about 18.6% of the total number of counterfeit banknotes, while the rest of the denominations were mainly of denominations of 20€, 10€ and 5€ comprised about 9.5% of the total number of counterfeit banknotes.

Counterfeit euro coins in the Republic of Kosovo

In the first half of 2019, the most counterfeit currencies were those in denominations of 2€ and 1€ which accounted for about 90.9% of the total number of counterfeit coins withdrawn from circulation. Similar to last year, in the first half of 2019, the most counterfeit currency was the denomination of 2€ which accounted for about 55.4% of the total number of counterfeit currency withdrawn from circulation.
