The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent constitutional institution, in order to provide the most accurate information to the public, and to address the questions received regarding the issue of using the Euro currency as the only means of payment, raised after the approval of the Regulation on Cash Operations has prepared and published the document “Frequently Asked Questions on the Regulation on Cash Operations”.

The Regulation more specifically and among others, addresses the following issues:

✅ Procedures for handling and withdrawal from circulation of euro; banknotes and coins and other currencies suspected of being counterfeit;

✅ Criteria for exchange of damaged euro banknotes and coins;

✅ Minimum standards for fitness checking and re-circulation of euro banknotes and coins;

✅ Standards for the packaging of euro banknotes and coins for deposit at the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo;

✅ Conditions for cash payment transactions;

✅ Rules and obligations for the import and export of euro banknotes and coins and other currencies from and to the Republic of Kosovo; and

✅ Procedures and obligations for providers of cash deposit or withdrawal services through customer-operated machines.

This Regulation was approved by the CBK Board on December 27, 2023 and enters into force on February 1, 2024.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to advancing the legal and supervisory framework in implementation of its constitutional mandate and in accordance with its strategic objectives.
