The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, accompanied by the Deputy Governors, met with the mission team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. David Amaglobeli, Mission Chief for Kosovo, and his team, to discuss recent macroeconomic and financial developments in the country, as well as preparations for the upcoming IMF mission for the regular Article IV consultations.

At the opening of the meeting, Governor Ismaili presented the latest macroeconomic developments in Kosovo, highlighting the positive trends in economic growth, inflation dynamics, and the overall stability of the financial sector. He also informed the IMF team about the developments in the banking sector, focusing on credit growth, the high levels of capitalization and liquidity, as well as potential challenges to financial stability.

For his part, Mr. Amaglobeli commended the constructive cooperation between the CBK and the IMF, congratulating the CBK for the progress achieved in strengthening institutional and regulatory frameworks. He emphasized that the CBK’s commitment to continuous reforms and alignment with European standards is essential for maintaining and further enhancing financial stability in the country.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on the ongoing IMF technical assistance programs with the CBK, with particular emphasis on the progress of the Financial Sector Stability Review (FSSR). Furthermore, discussions covered ongoing projects related to real estate market studies, systemic liquidity analyses, credit developments, and other topics that may be part of the discussions during the upcoming Article IV Mission.

Governor Ismaili highly appreciated the IMF’s professional and technical support provided to the CBK over the years, both in advancing the legal and regulatory framework and in strengthening institutional capacities. He reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to continuing its cooperation with the IMF through projects and programs aimed at advancing institutional reforms and achieving the CBK’s strategic objectives.

The IMF mission will be in Kosovo from November 3 to 7, during which period the team from Washington, D.C. will hold thematic meetings with the executive management and staff of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as with other institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
