The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosova (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, together with his team, welcomed the technical assistance mission team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. Yunhui Zhao from IMF Headquarters.

The Mission represents an important step toward further strengthening the CBK’s capacities in macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis, in line with international best practices. The technical assistance project follows earlier discussions held during Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., between Governor Ismaili and the IMF’s Institute for Capacity Development (ICD) (including ICD senior management), as well as the CBK’s formal request for this support and the introductory mission in September 2025.

During the meeting, Governor Ismaili briefed the IMF team on recent developments in Kosovo’s financial sector and on the reforms undertaken by the CBK to enhance financial stability and improve policy effectiveness. He also outlined the institution’s expectations from this engagement, emphasizing its importance for strengthening analytical capacities and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Governor Ismaili highlighted that the technical assistance would contribute to building sustainable internal capacities and further enhancing the quality of the macroeconomic policy framework, in line with the CBK’s Strategic Plan. The analytical framework to be developed will strengthen CBK’s analytical and forecasting capacities, including through scenario development for policy discussions and macro-financial stress testing, thereby supporting CBK’s policymaking process.

Mr. Zhao presented the agreed objectives of the multi-year technical assistance project, aimed primarily at establishing a sound analytical infrastructure to enable robust forecasting and scenario analysis to inform policymaking.

In conclusion, the CBK and the IMF team reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and to ensuring the successful implementation of this important project.

The CBK highly appreciates the IMF’s support and recognizes the significant value of technical assistance projects in strengthening institutional capacities.
