The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, participated in the Plenary Session of the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), as well as the IMF Committee, held in Washington, D.C.

The Plenary Session brought together finance ministers, central bank governors, and delegates from 191 member countries to discuss global economic developments, financial stability, and the outlook for sustainable growth. During the session, the President of the World Bank Group, Mr. Ajay Banga, presented the latest developments and strategic priorities of the institution, emphasizing the importance of private sector–driven growth, job creation, resilience building, conflict prevention, and reconstruction in regions affected by crises. Following his remarks, IMF Managing Director Ms. Kristalina Georgieva delivered a presentation outlining recent global economic trends and the Fund’s policy priorities aimed at reinforcing macroeconomic stability. She highlighted the critical need for countries to strengthen their resilience amid a period of heightened global uncertainty.

During the Fifty-Second Meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), Ms. Georgieva presented the Global Policy Agenda, detailing key priorities for navigating the ongoing profound transformation of the global economy. Discussions focused on structural shifts in global trade, accelerated digitalization, and the importance of robust institutional frameworks and central bank independence to maintain economic stability and credibility. The Committee also addressed pressing challenges related to debt vulnerabilities and the need for credible fiscal consolidation to ensure sustainable public finances. Members emphasized the importance of reinforcing the global financial safety net and expanding capacity development initiatives to enhance resilience, foster inclusive growth, and enable countries to adapt effectively to the evolving global environment.

Governor Ismaili’s participation in the plenary provided an opportunity to engage with global policymakers and representatives of international financial institutions on issues of mutual interest, including the global economic outlook and initiatives to strengthen financial sector resilience.

The participation of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo in the Annual Meetings contributes to strengthening international cooperation and provides valuable insights into global policy trends that inform the development of the financial sector in Kosovo.
