The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, accompanied by Deputy Governor Mr. Dardan Fusha, met with the EU Office Ambassador to Kosovo, H.E. Mr. Tomáš Szunyog. The Ambassador Szunyog was informed about the main developments in the financial system, the advancement of the legal and regulatory framework, and activities related to the sustainability and integrity of the country’s financial system.

Governor Ismaili specifically informed Ambassador Szunyog about the recent activities by the CBK for membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), including the drafting of the necessary legal framework funded by the European Union and implemented by the World Bank as part of a regional project.

Governor Ismaili emphasized that Kosovo’s entry into EU systems would facilitate trade and contribute to creating an efficient, secure, and more integrated payment system that would serve the country’s needs for economic growth.

During the meeting, Ambassador Szunyog stated that the EU remains committed to supporting Kosovo’s path and the CBK in meeting the legal and technical conditions for SEPA membership, which is key for the Growth Plan, for the country’s integration into the European family, and its benefits.

Finally, Governor Ismaili expressed the CBK’s gratitude for the support shown by the EU for the financial system and the economy of the Republic of Kosovo through numerous financial support programs, including mechanisms from European Union institutions and European Central Bank.
