Today, in the offices of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), was held a meeting between Governor Mehmeti and Deputy Governor Havolli with the Deputy Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, representatives of the Kosovo Security Bureau (KSB), Besarb Blakaj, Chairperson of the Administrative Council and, Sami Mazreku, Executive Director, where they discussed about the initiation of the project for putting stickers on motor vehicles, in order to more easily identify whether these motor vehicles circulate as legally registered or not.

CBK and KSB support the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure in putting stickers on motor vehicles. All financial and operational costs related to putting stickers on motor vehicles will be borne by insurers, respectively KSB as a representative of the insurance industry in Kosovo. Consequently, the state budget of the Republic of Kosovo will not have any financial burden related to putting stickers.

Starting from 1 March 2022, it is planned to start the full implementation of the project so that within a period of one year we have a new situation on vehicles regularly registered in the Republic of Kosovo. From this date onwards, the insurance members of the KSB will have the authorization to put stickers on motor vehicles, on the occasion of their insurance at the Vehicle Registration Centres.

For the full implementation of this project, regarding putting stickers on motor vehicles to identify whether they circulate in road traffic legally registered or not, a memorandum of understanding will be signed with a duration of 1 year, to monitor the implementation of it. Deputy Minister Durmishi pledged that in the framework of this memorandum of understanding, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will issue all necessary sub-legal acts to fully implement the project in question.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Kosovo Police, within the legal competencies they have according to the law, will verify the correctness of the relevant documentation of motor vehicles in road traffic.

The implementation of this project for putting stickers on motor vehicles, aims to reduce the number of uninsured/unregistered motor vehicles in road traffic, as one of the necessary preconditions for membership in the organization of the Council of Bureaux in Brussels, or to find alternative solutions for free circulation.
