The project builds upon the successful technical assistance previously provided through the European Union TAIEX instrument, implemented in close cooperation with the Croatian National Bank. That cooperation resulted in the preparation of the Draft Law on Prevention and Combating Counterfeit Currency, which establishes the institutional framework which defines the relevant institutional framework and the Kosovo Counterfeit Monitoring System.

During the meeting, participants discussed the objectives of the project, the implementation methodology and the first phase of activities, which includes a comprehensive assessment of the legal, institutional and technical capacities of all participating institutions. In addition, the project will also support capacity building activities through specialized trainings and the development of the model for the Kosovo Counterfeit Monitoring System.

The Deputy Governor of the CBK Mr. Dardan Fusha emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of the euro circulating in Kosovo represents an important national responsibility and contributes directly to protecting the integrity and sovereignty of the monetary and financial system. He underlined that the successful implementation of the project depends on close cooperation among all competent institutions and reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to continuing to strengthen Kosovo’s legal, institutional and operational framework for combating counterfeit currency.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosova expressed its appreciation to the European Union Office for their continued support, as well as to all participating institutions for their commitment to jointly implementing this important initiative in accordance with European best practices.
