Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo Hosts Eurostat Mission on Statistical Development

Prishtina, 8 May 2026 – The Deputy Governor of the CBK, Mr. Dardan Fusha, together with colleagues of the Statistics Department, hosted a mission from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, focused on reviewing progress in the field of statistics and further alignment with European statistical standards.

The Eurostat delegation was led by Ms. Claudia Junker, Head of Unit for Enlargement, Neighbourhood and Development Cooperation, and Ms. Kari Anne Lund, Statistical Officer newly appointed to cover Kosovo. The mission also included Mr. Ibrahim Rrustemi, Director of the Department for Policy, Planning, Coordination and Communication at the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS).

During the meeting, Deputy Governor of the CBK, Mr. Dardan Fusha , emphasized that statistics remain a strategic priority, given their importance for policymaking, transparency, and the European integration process. Both CBK and Eurostat acknowledged the progress achieved over recent years in aligning national statistics with European standards, building on CBK’s longstanding cooperation with Eurostat through regular data transmission for more than a decade. Particular progress was noted in key areas such as Balance of Payments, International Investment Position, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and International Trade in Services (ITS) statistics.

CBK presented its ongoing efforts to improve data quality and expand statistical coverage, as well as to strengthen methodological frameworks. These efforts are supported by capacity building activities, the engagement of new staff, and continued progress in the automation and modernization of statistical processes. In this context, cooperation with KAS was highly appreciated, with emphasis placed on the importance of strong institutional coordination to ensure data consistency, harmonization, and the further development of the national statistical system.

At the same time, the discussion underlined the need for continued efforts to advance ongoing reforms, particularly in strengthening data coverage, further improving FDI statistics, and accelerating the transition from development phases to the full operational implementation of statistical systems and processes.

CBK reiterated its commitment to further alignment with Eurostat and international statistical standards, including continued work toward subscription to the IMF’s Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS), alongside the continued modernization of statistical infrastructure.

The Central Bank expressed its appreciation for Eurostat’s continued support and guidance, reaffirming the commitment to close cooperation with Eurostat and national partners, including KAS, in order to achieve concrete results in the period ahead.
