A high-level delegation of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), led by Governor Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, Deputy Governor Mr. Milot Cakaj, and other associates, is participating in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB), held from October 13 to 18 in Washington D.C., USA.

During this official visit, CBK representatives will hold bilateral meetings with senior leadership of the IMF, WB, the U.S. Treasury, other international financial institutions, as well as governors of partner European central banks. They will also participate in multilateral meetings to represent Kosovo and expand cooperation on issues of joint public interest.

At the meetings, CBK will present key developments and priorities in the financial sector, results from the implementation of programs and technical assistance, as well as needs for further support in fulfilling CBK’s mandate.

As part of the Annual Meetings, Governor Ismaili will participate in the IMF’s high-level panel titled “Strengthening Financial System Resilience in Uncertain Times: Building Capacity in Emerging and Developing Countries”, which will be opened by the newly appointed IMF Deputy Director, Mr. Dan Katz, and will feature participation from other senior IMF officials. On this occasion, the Governor will present the main achievements of Kosovo’s financial system, the IMF’s contributions, including the Financial Sector Stability Review (FSSR), in building institutional capacity and reforming the supervisory and regulatory framework, resulting in a stable financial system that supports the private sector, economic growth, and national financial stability.

Additionally, during this visit, Governor Ismaili, together with four central bank governors from the region, will sign with the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Mr. Panetta, a Letter of Intent for the development of an instant payment system – TIPS Clone, for the four central banks in the region, as part of a regional project launched earlier this year.

At the IMF’s invitation, Governor Ismaili will present key developments in Kosovo’s economy, regional and European perspectives, at a high-level closed-door forum organized by the IMF European Department, attended by Governors and Finance Ministers from European countries, including Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European countries (CESSE), as part of the IMF’s annual event.

The annual meetings of the IMF and WB bring together central bankers, finance ministers, parliamentarians, private sector leaders, civil society representatives, and academics to discuss globally important issues such as economic outlooks, poverty reduction, and sustainable development.
