The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, met with the National Coordinator for Combating Economic Crime, Mr. Kujtim Munishi, with whom he discussed the deepening of interinstitutional cooperation.

During the meeting, the need to increase efficiency in identifying and addressing challenges in the fight against economic and financial crime, money laundering, terrorism financing, counterfeit currency, and other criminal offenses was emphasized.

While valuing the existing cooperation, Governor Ismaili informed Coordinator Munishi about recent developments in the banking sector, including reforms undertaken by the CBK to strengthen financial supervisory functions, the integrity of the financial system, financial education, and improved access to safe financing across the country.

The meeting also addressed common challenges identified in practice during the execution of institutional functions, within the framework of the independent roles both institutions hold. The parties highlighted the importance of addressing these challenges and promoting institutional efficiency.

In this context, an agreement was expressed to intensify efforts in the fight against cybercrime, illicit practices, and other harmful schemes, through regular information exchange and the harmonization of strategic approaches, in the interest of the financial system and the protection of consumers. The need for interinstitutional coordination regarding crypto-asset legislation was also mentioned, as well as other innovations, both in terms of financial education on risks and the prevention of unhealthy practices.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo reaffirms its commitment to institutional cooperation, aiming to fulfill its mandate and achieve its objectives in service of the public interest.
