The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, together with Deputy Governor Ms. Nesrin Shileku-Shala and senior CBK staff, held a meeting with senior experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. Arkadiusz Majewski – head of mission – as part of IMF’s technical assistance aimed at reviewing and supporting the implementation of the Central Bank Transparency Code. This engagement is part of CBK’s ongoing commitment to good governance and institutional transparency.

Governor Ismaili expressed his gratitude to the IMF for its continued support in capacity building through technical assistance, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening practices that align with international standards promoting transparency through effective central bank communication. He also presented key developments related to CBK governance and the institutional reforms underway.

On their side, the head of the IMF Transparency Code Mission commended the strong cooperation and the high level of commitment demonstrated by CBK staff in the preparatory phase, including the self-assessment process and stakeholder engagement for this mission.

At CBK’s request, the IMF team will, during their visit to Kosovo, conduct a detailed review of the design and application of practices that ensure transparency in CBK’s operations. This includes the communication of policies, activities, and outcomes, as well as its interactions with state institutions, financial sector representatives, and the public.

The project aims to assist central banks in evaluating and improving their transparency practices. Based on the IMF Central Bank Transparency Code, it seeks to enhance institutional transparency, stakeholder engagement, and, more broadly, the effectiveness of monetary and financial policies. Similar projects have recently been implemented in the region, including in Montenegro and North Macedonia.

CBK’s participation in this IMF project stands as clear testimony to its commitment to advancing transparency, communication, and accountability – and ultimately, to reinforcing public trust – in line with its Strategic Plan and international standards applicable to central banks.
