The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, held an official meeting with the Chair of the Single Resolution Board (SRB), Mr. Dominique Laboureix, and the Board Member and Director for Resolution Policy Development and Coordination, Ms. Karen Braun-Munzinger, at the SRB headquarters in Brussels.

Governor Ismaili presented the latest developments in Kosovo’s financial sector, highlighting key CBK initiatives to strengthen financial stability, reform banking supervision, modernize the payment infrastructure and consumer protection framework, and establish the resolution function in alignment with EU legislation. He also provided an update on Kosovo’s pre-application process for SEPA membership and progress in implementing a real-time payment system in cooperation with the Banca d’Italia.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to align Kosovo’s regulatory and supervisory frameworks with European Union standards. Focus was given on financial stability, bank resolution, and consumer protection, emphasizing capacity building and legal harmonization in bank resolvability, aligning with best EU practices.

Governor Ismaili expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to conduct this first high-level visit and welcomed the SRB’s willingness to support Kosovo in developing its resolution framework. He reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in developing prudent regulation, sound market practices, and strong consumer protection mechanisms. The CBK remains firmly dedicated to close cooperation with EU institutions to harmonize its regulatory framework and further integrate into the European financial system.
