The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, according to the publication calendar, presents the statistics on the Balance of Payments for February 2025.

Balance of payments – during the first two months of 2025, it was characterized by a current account deficit of 175.63 million euros, which represents an increase of 20.47% compared to the same period last year. This increase in the current account deficit is mainly the result of the deepening of the deficit in the trade balance.

The trade balance – of goods by the end of February 2025 recorded a deficit of 791.50 million euros, representing an increase of 21.48% compared to the same period of the previous year. Exports during this period reached 129.88 million euros, marking a decrease of 1.01%, while imports of goods reached 921.38 million euros, representing an increase of 17.71% compared to the first two months of the previous year.

The services account – which has a constant positive balance, reached 281.74 million euros at the end of February 2025, representing a higher level of positive balance by 32.74% compared to the same period last year.

Primary income – by the end of February 2025, recorded a positive balance of 50.83 million euros, compared to 20.53 million euros in the same period of the previous year, reflecting an increase of 147.63%.

Secondary income – remains the main contributor to the current account deficit mitigation. During the first two months of 2025, this account recorded a positive balance of 283.30 million euros, which represents an increase of 3.77% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Remittances – constitute the main category within secondary income. During January and February 2025, their amount reached 174.10 million euros, marking an increase of 1.25% compared to the same period in 2024. According to preliminary estimates, remittances for March 2025 were 117.5 million euros, thus reaching the total amount for the first three months of 2025 at 291.65 million euros. Also during March, the majority of remittances were received through NBFIs (66.08%), followed by commercial banks (13.04%) and other channels (20.87%).

Assets in the financial account – during the first two months of 2025, recorded a positive balance of 1.71 million euros, while financial liabilities recorded a positive balance of 88.88 million euros..

Direct Investments in Kosovo – during this period, reached the amount of 161.57 million euros, almost the same amount compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, direct investments outside Kosovo marked a value of 34.97 million euros, representing an increase of 28.64% compared to the same period in 2024.

Reserve assets – for the first two months of 2025, they recorded a positive balance of 16.59 million euros, compared to 5.83 million euros in the same period of the previous year. The increase in reserve assets is attributed to the increase in deposits in the amount of 33.57 million euros, while securities recorded a decrease of 16.98 million euros, as a result of the maturity of these investments.
