Cash and Banking Relations Department

Cash and Banking Relations Department is responsible for managing cash operations and maintaining and processing CBK client accounts.

Cash and Banking Relations Department is responsible for ensuring the adequate supply of banknotes and coins in Kosovo, promoting safe, sound and efficient payment, clearing and settlement of securities, maintaining and managing international reserves, acting as the banker, financial advisor and fiscal agent of the Government, and collecting and publishing relevant financial information.

Cash Division

    • Duties:

      • Administration of the vault area and safekeeping of cash;
      • Organization of relevant activities with the parties; management and handling of the parties' deposits;
      • Management and handling of the parties' supply of cash;
      • Processing (counting, verifying, classifying, binding and packaging) of cash received from the parties;
      • Withdrawal from circulation of obsolete cash received from the parties;
      • Issuance of new cash into circulation through commercial banks;
      • Daily monitoring of the optimal quantity and quality of cash and consequently, preparation of the relevant imports and exports;
      • Coordination of activities related to the competent authorities (handling and reporting of counterfeits in cooperation with the police; organization of cash training with the police, etc.);
      • Compiling and publishing advice and educational materials for the public with the aim of ensuring the protection of currency from counterfeiting in the Republic of Kosovo; and
      • Providing storage services;

Banking Relations Division

    • Duties:

      • Receiving and verifying applications for account opening;
      • Receiving updated signatures (authorized signatories) from clients;
      • Receiving, validating and executing clients' outgoing payment orders;
      • Monitoring and notifying clients of incoming payment orders;
      • Verifying and executing through the local payment order interface;
      • Distributing client account statements;
      • Receiving and verifying requests for account closure; and
      • Maintaining and developing good working relationships with all clients of the CBK.

  • The role, duties and responsibilities in the context of services to CBK customers (opening and managing accounts, initiating and executing payments) will be examined.

Unit against Counterfeit Money

The purpose of the Unit against Counterfeit Money was established within the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo with the aim of undertaking and implementing measures to prevent and detect counterfeiting at the national level, as well as for the purpose of cooperating with competent authorities within the country and abroad in the fields of preventing and detecting counterfeiting of currency in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. Unit against Counterfeit Money aims to identify, prevent cases of production, distribution and use of counterfeit money. Unit against Counterfeit Money ensures the integrity of the monetary system by closely cooperating with law enforcement agencies, financial institutions and government bodies. Unit against Counterfeit Money operates by implementing the Law on the Central Bank, the Law on Banks, the Regulation on Cash Operations and other legal and sub-legal acts in function of this area.

The scope of the Unit against Counterfeit Money is essential for protecting the financial system and ensuring public confidence in the integrity of the currency.

    • Duties:

      • Analysis of suspected counterfeit banknotes and related materials;
      • Collaboration with local, national and international agencies on complex counterfeit cases;
      • Education of financial institutions, businesses and the public on the identification of counterfeit currency;
      • Development and distribution of training materials and awareness-raising campaigns;
      • Monitoring of trends in counterfeiting activities and reporting of findings to stakeholders;
      • Maintaining accurate records of counterfeit currency and banknote cases;
      • Preparing of reports and evidence for legal proceedings and testifying in court when required;
      • Collaboration with central banks, law enforcement agencies, the Forensic Agency and Customs to track counterfeiting activities;
      • Exchange of intelligence and best practices with partner organizations; and
      • Managing and securing evidence in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
