According to the release calendar, the CBK published the Balance of Payments (BoP) statistics for the month of September 2023

Balance of payments until the end of September 2023 was characterized by a current account deficit in the amount of 391.1 million euros, which shows an improvement of 24% compared to the same period last year (the deficit was in the amount of 514.8 million euros until September 2022). In the reduction of the current account deficit during this period, mainly the services account and secondary income have had a positive impact.

Balance of trade in goods until September 2023 had a deficit of 3.29 billion euros, which is 4.8% higher compared to the same period of the previous year. Export for this period decreased by 7.2% marking the value of 645.5 million euros (the export had the value of 695.5 million euros until September 2022). Meanwhile, the import of goods recorded a slight increase of 2.6% reaching the value of 3,935.6 million euros (the import had the value of 3,835.3 million euros until September 2022).

Services account, which constantly has a positive balance, until September 2023 marked the value of 1,328.1, which is 15% higher compared to the same period of 2022, which was 1,158.1 million euros.

Primary income until September 2023 recorded a positive balance of 93.1 million euros, which in the same period last year had the value of 61.1 million euros. This represents a significant increase or about 52.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Secondary income remains the main contributor to the current account deficit mitigation. Until September 2023, this account recorded an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period of 2022, reaching the value of 1,477.9 million euros (it had the value of 1,405.9 million euros until September 2022).

Remittances are the main category within secondary income, the value of which until September 2023 was 1,009.2 million euros, which represents an increase of 104.7 million euros or 11.5% compared to the same period of 2022.

Assets in the financial account until September 2023 had the value of 684.4 million euros. Meanwhile, financial obligations have marked the value of 790.7 million euros, for the same period.

Direct investments in Kosovo until the end of September 2023 had the value of 612.7 million euros (they had the value of 612.5 million euros until the end of September 2022), while Kosovo foreign direct investments were worth 161.2 million euros (they had the value of 121.2 million euros until September 2022).

Investments in foreign securities, without including the securities within the reserve assets, until September 2023 have increased by 368.7 million euros.

Other investments in Kosovo (investments in deposits, loans and commercial loans) until the end of September 2023 had the value of 177.9 million euros (they had the value of 283.5 million euros until September 2022), while other foreign investments until the end of September 2023 had the value of 3.4 million euros (they had the value of 74.5 million euros until September 2022).

Reserve assets until September 2023 have increased by 151.2 million euros, while in the same period of the previous year they had increased by 366.2 million euros.
