The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, received in a meeting the new Ambassador of Austria in our country, His Excellency Mr. Georg Schnetzer, whom he congratulated on his duty and welcomed him to Kosovo.

In this meeting, the Governor informed Ambassador Schnetzer about the CBK’s activities in order to achieve the objectives and the Strategic Plan, with a focus on the new organizational objectives and functions, the stability and progress of the financial system, which also includes Austrian financial institutions licensed in Kosovo.

The head of the CBK, through Ambassador Schnetzer, thanked the Austrian state and people for the support provided by Austrian institutions, with emphasis on the Central Bank of Austria, with which the CBK has excellent cooperation in terms of technical assistance and capacity building of the CBK. With the expanded cooperation in the last month, aspects related to economic analysis and research aspects as well as the supervision of systemic banks will be strengthened. The Joint Vienna Institute has also made an important contribution to capacity building for the CBK personnel, for which gratitude was also expressed.

During this meeting, Governor Ismaili informed Ambassador Schnetzer about the preparations and the work that the CBK is doing in terms of the legal and infrastructural framework for the project for the integration of the Western Balkans into the SEPA payment scheme and the European Union’s instant payment system. (TIPS).

Part of the discussion were the challenges and opportunities for membership in the Green Card for vehicles, as well as the need to find opportunities for listing the Republic of Kosovo on global payment platforms, for which support from the Austrian state was requested, as a continuation of such assistance.

Ambassador Schnetzer expressed his willingness to support the CBK in realizing the objectives and plans as the highest financial institution in the country, foreseen according to the constitutional and legal mandate.

In the end, Governor Ismaili expressed the gratitude of the institution he leads for the support provided by Austria, especially for the financial system, through numerous financial support programs.
