The statistics of the Balance of Payments of Kosovo for December 2023 have been published

The CBK has published the Balance of Payments (BoP) for December 2023 in accordance with the publication calendar

Balance of Payment by the end of December 2023 was characterized with a current account deficit in the amount of EUR 741.6 million, showing an improvement by 19.1% compared to the same period of last year (EUR 917.1 million was the deficit by December 2022). The reduction of the current account deficit during this period was positively influenced by the services account and secondary incomes.

Balance of Trade in goods by December 2023 marked a deficit of EUR 4.6 billion, which is 7.3% higher compared to the same period of the previous year. The export for this period decreased by 6.5% marking the value of EUR 870.7 million (EUR 931.5 million was by December 2022). Whereas, the import of goods marked an increase by 4.8%, thus reaching the value of EUR 5,469.0 million (EUR 5,218.7 million was by December 2022).

Account of services, which constantly has a positive balance, by December 2023 amounted to EUR 1,631.6 million, which is 18.8% higher compared to the same period of 2022.

Property income by December 2023, which constantly has a positive balance, amounted to EUR 1,631.6 million, which is 18.8% higher compared to the same period of 2022.

Remittance is the main category within secondary income, the amount of which by December 2023 was EUR 1,343.4 million, representing an increase by EUR 120.5 million or 10% compared to the same period of 2022.

Assets in financial account by December 2023 were EUR 761.2 million, whereas financial obligations amounted toEUR 1,188.0 million for the same period.
Direct investments in Kosova by the end of December 2023 amounted to EUR 816.0 million (EUR 732.0 million by the end of December 2022), while direct investments outside Kosova amounted to EUR 193.2 million (EUR 175.2 million by December 2022).

Outward investments in securities, without including the securities within reserve assets, by December 2023 marked an increase by EUR 439.6 million.

Other investments (investments in deposits, loans and commercial loans) by the end of December 2023 amounted to EUR 372.0 million (EUR 454.3 million were by December 2022), while other investments outside Kosovo by the end of December 2023 amounted to EUR 172.4 million (EUR 146.4 million was by December 2022). As a result of the change in this position, the balance of other investments by the end of December 2023 marked a negative value of EUR 426.8 million.
Reserve assets by December 2023 have decreased by EUR 44.0 million, while during the same period of the previous year the increase was by EUR 67.6 million.
