Dr. Ahmet Ismaili

Dr. Ahmet Ismaili serves as the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK) and chairs its Executive Board. With nearly 20 years of experience in banking and finance, Dr. Ismaili has held senior management positions, achieving significant results in both the financial industry and public sector. His 12 years of professional experience in the financial industry include various roles within the banking and insurance sectors, ultimately reaching top management positions, including CEO and Board Member, in both local and international financial institutions.

 

For a full five-year mandate, Dr. Ismaili served as the General Director of the State Treasury of the Republic of Kosovo, part of the Ministry of Finance (MoF). He has also held other public roles, such as Managing Director and Board Member of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF), an independent institution, and previously served as a Board Member and Audit Committee Member of the Health Insurance Fund (HIF).

 

Dr. Ismaili earned his PhD in economics, with a focus on banking and finance, from Pristina Public University. He has also been engaged as a lecturer for approximately eight years at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Prishtina and other accredited universities in Kosovo, teaching banking and finance at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

In his role as Governor, Dr. Ismaili chairs the Management Board of the Deposit Insurance Fund (DIFK) and serves as Kosovo’s representative on the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as Alternate Governor for the World Bank Group (WBG).

Guvernor's Office

The Governor’s office consists of advisers and assistants. The Governor’s Cabinet supports the organization and implementation of the Governor’s agenda and is responsible for relevant coordination with deputy governors and other senior staff members. The Governor’s Cabinet regularly communicates and cooperates closely with other CBK organizational units regarding significant operational and administrative issues.

Governor’s office main functions

  • Assist and advise the Governor on general and special matters;
  • Supervision of specific issues/duties determined by the Governor and ensuring their implementation;
  • Supervision and supporting of organizational units under the direct supervision of the Governor;
  • Communication and cooperation with the CBK relevant organizational units if requested by the Governor;
  • Secretarial and logistics work associated with Governor’s daily activities within and outside the CBK;
  • Review of various documents within and outside the CBK addressed to the Governor;
  • Maintaining files and important documents received or sent by the Governor.
