Statistics Department

Statistics Department is responsible for the collection, compilation and publication of statistics by the CBK.

The compilation and publication of statistics by the Statistics Department is carried out in accordance with international standards and best practices of other countries. The Statistics Department cooperates closely with relevant units of the CBK and other external parties with the aim of preparing accurate and reliable monetary and financial statistics, financial accounts and external sector statistics, as well as further advancing the statistical system in accordance with international best practices.

Duties

    • Drafts the legal basis to provide the necessary statistical data;
    • Identifies the reporters and their statistical obligations, reporting forms, reporting period and the manner of sending statistical information from relevant institutions;
    • Produces (collects, compiles, validates and disseminates) monetary financial and external sector statistics (balance of payments statistics, international investment position and external debt statistics) in accordance with international statistical standards;
    • Publishes the results of monetary financial and external sector statistics in periodic and non-periodic publications of the CBK in accordance with international statistical standards;
    • Distributes monetary financial and external sector statistics to international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, Eurostat, etc.;
    • Represents the CBK inside and outside the Republic of Kosovo, as well as establishing and maintaining the necessary cooperation regarding statistical issues;
    • Develops new statistical projects and updates existing ones in line with market developments and changes in international statistical standards;
    • Develops and updated statistical methodology, publication policy, working procedures and other administrative documents; and
    • Contributes to the development of general statistical processes in Kosovo, as specified in the Law on Official Statistics of the Republic of Kosovo.

External Statistics Division

    • Duties:

      • Compilation of the Balance of Payments (BOP) on a monthly basis. Within the framework of the balance of payments, international trade in goods and services, remittances and direct investments are compiled, among others;
      • Compilation of the International Investment Position (IIP) on a quarterly basis;
      • Compilation of the External Debt (ED) on a quarterly basis;
      • Compilation of International Reserves on a monthly basis;
      • Distribution of external sector statistics to international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, Eurostat, etc.; and
      • Development and preparation of statistical methodologies based on international standards for the compilation of BOP, IIP and ED and financial accounts, cooperating closely with the IMF and other relevant international institutions to ensure that these statistics are compiled and disseminated in a consistent and comparable manner with other countries.

Financial Statistics Division

  • Duties:

    • Compilation and dissemination of monetary and financial statistics. This includes data on the monetary base, broad and narrow money, credit, interest rates, and financial sector assets and liabilities;
    • Compilation of banking sector statistics, which includes the CBK and commercial banks;
    • Compilation of other financial sector statistics, insurance companies, pension funds and other financial institutions;
    • Compilation of Financial Soundness Indicators (FSI), which are used to assess the health and stability of the financial system in Kosovo;
    • Compilation of Financial Account Statistics (FAS) which are an integral part of national accounts that record the internal and external linkages of financial accounts in an economy classified by economic sectors and financial instruments;
    • Dissemination of monetary and financial statistics to international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, Eurostat, etc.; and
    • Development and promotion of international standards for MFS, FSI and financial accounts by closely cooperating with the IMF and other relevant international institutions to ensure that these statistics are compiled and disseminated in a consistent and comparable manner across countries.
