The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, hosted a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kosovo, H. E. Jörn Rohde, whom he thanked for Germany’s support in the CBK’s capacity building projects, in particular from the German regulatory and supervisory authorities.

Accompanied by Deputy Governor Mr. Fusha, Governor Ismaili briefed Ambassador Rohde and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Conrad on the current state of the financial sector, highlighting the financial stability and strong performance of the sector. The discussion also covered the CBK’s activities and plans to achieve its statutory objectives and strategic plan, in particular progress in the regulatory and legal framework, developments in the technical infrastructure required for SEPA membership, improvements in access to finance, and sustainable financing.

During the meeting, the CBK Governor briefed the German Ambassador on the pre-application process for the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and the development of the TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS), as well as other related areas within the CBK’s purview.

Current challenges were also discussed, including Kosovo’s membership in the Green Card system for motor insurance and its listing on global payment platforms, for which institutional support was requested.

Governor Ismaili and Ambassador Rohde also discussed strengthening cooperation with German regulators, such as the Bundesbank and BaFin. They highlighted the excellent cooperation with the Bundesbank in the management of Kosovo’s international reserves and support within the Euro system.

At the end of the meeting, the Governor expressed his deep gratitude to the German people and authorities for their continued support. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance cooperation in line with legal mandates and public interest.
