MFI/NBFI

All the parties interested in establishing a Microfinance Institution (MFI) or a Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) must initially apply for registration/license to exercise the financial activities as stated in the Law on Banks, MFs, and NBFIs. Those interested must initially read MFI/NBFI Registration Manual and the Frequently Asked Questions for MFI/NBFI Registration, then directly contact the Department for Licensing and Standardization at the CBK to set up an informational meeting, which is mandatory prior to the application process.

The Department for Licensing and Standardization provides all the the necessary instructions for the application process for registering/licensing a MFI or NBFI.

MFI/NBFI Registration Manual

The MFIs and NBFIs Registration Manual sets out the necessary conditions and procedures that need to be fulfilled by entities applying to obtain a registration from the CBK. The manual provides specific guidelines for receiving and assessing applications and determines the minimum required documents for application for registration. It should be noted that the manual is a procedural guide only and does not include all the factors, which can be evaluated during the analysis. Additional information may be required by the CBK during the application process, depending on the complexity of the situation.
