“Learn to Save” was the motto of the activity that gathered today in the auditorium of the National Library children and primary school teachers of the capital, representatives of the Central Bank, representatives from Banking Association and media. This event is marked all around the world and is the main protagonists are children, students and young people.
Within the field of financial education and money saving, with the aim of raising children’s, student’s and young people awareness, every year worldwide campaigns are organized with the activities named as “Global Money Week”. These activities are mainly organized by Central Banks of the respective countries. Based on its mandate and in accordance with the obligations arising from its objectives based on its Strategic Plan, as the central banking institution of Kosovo, this year the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo same as other central banks has joined manifestation to mark this event. The aim of the CBK is to expand the scope of the project on financial education in the future in all primary, secondary, high schools and colleges and universities across the country, in order for more frequent lectures, quizzes, workshops and activities to be held regarding finances, with particular emphasis in organizing diversified activities where children are involved in order to better understand finances, learning how to care for money and how to participate in savings.
The” Child & Youth Finance International” organization is supporting these activities worldwide. Its members are Central Banks of many countries and other associations. From this year the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo is a member of this organization.
The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Bedri Hamza on behalf of this day held a speech in front of the children, after explaining to them the role and importance of savings money, among others he said: “You should spend your money only on things that you really need to have like food, clothing, books, notebooks, (even for a toy sometimes) and not necessarily on all things that you wish. In the long run, it is much better to save money you would have spent on things that you wish, to save them in the form of savings, because money saved is money earned.
As parents, we always want to meet all your wishes to reward you with gifts and money every time you achieve results in school, help at home and make us proud with your achievements. But you can make us more proud if you spend carefully and save carefully those money we give you.
Of course we are talking about small amount of money that parents or relatives give you, as result of their love of you conduct, achievements in school or during holidays, but do not forget that the power of one cent or one Euro is very big and you can understand the power of such a small amount of money only when you go to the store and you want to buy something and you lack one cent or one euro to buy it. I hope that you understand the importance of saving money and also hope that you will share today’s lessons with other friends at school and home.”
On behalf of the importance of this day, the Director of the Board of the Kosovo Bankers Association, Mr. Robert Wright, told to the students present on this activity about the role and importance of savings.
Also Mrs. Shkëndije Himaj, Advisor the Executive Board of the CBK, addressed to the children with some words from everyday practices and told them about the importance of saving for the future by sharing with the children her own daily experience as a parent.
The Central Bank in order to point out the creativity of the children in primary schools has distributed them an invitation to participate with their works, by showing their skills in painting, poems or essays and to their best works selected by a joint commission, teacher, CBK representatives, will be awarded a prize by the CBK.
