The Central Bank of Republic of Kosovo in cooperation with the Bank of Albania organize the exhibition “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg in Albanian coins and banknotes”

In the frame of the Pan-National Year of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the 140th anniversary of the Albanian League of Prizren (June 10, 1878) and the 110th anniversary of Congress of Manastir, the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo in cooperation with the Bank of Albania organize a temporary exhibition “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg in Albanian coins and banknotes”.
The exhibition is part of the state agenda organized by the Governmental Commission for the Pan-National Year of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and will remain open from 10 to 12 June 2018, from 10:00 to 20:00 hours, at the Albanian League of Prizren Museum, in Prizren.

The exhibition, opened by the Governor Mehmeti contains a numismatic treasure from both countries, Kosovo and Albania, mainly coins used in the Albanian lands at different stages from the 1st century BC to the present days.
In addition to the numismatic treasure, exhibited are various historical texts, historical images and financial education products of both central banks, showing thus a merger of numismatics, history and the education.
In his speech, Governor Mehmet among others highly appreciated the role and importance of the exhibition opened in the occasion of this important event. He underlined that “thanks to the excellent cooperation between the CBK and BoA, this year we have decided to jointly mark the Pan-National Year of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg that coincides with the 550th anniversary of his death and the 140th anniversary of the Albanian League of Prizren. On this occasion, the Central Bank, in coordination with the Kosovo Museum, the Bank of Albania and the Albanian League of Prizren Museum as host, in this beautiful environment, is opening the exhibition ‘Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg’, where Albanian coins and banknotes are presented, some of which used in Kosovo during World War II”.
Altin Tanku, senior official from the Central Bank of Albania, appreciated the opening of the exhibition as it commemorates major events for the Albanian nation, such as the 550th anniversary of the death of the national hero Skanderbeg and the 140th anniversary of the Albanian League of Prizren.

“The exhibition brings to the Kosovar public an important part of the monetary financial history of our countries, which ranges from ancient times to the present day. Skanderbeg’s figure is very important, reaching and finding its place in the national currency regardless of historical periods or any economic system that existed in Albanian territories,” said Tanku. Tanku emphasized that the exhibition also presents commemorating coins regarding the Congress of Manastir, another important event in Albanian history.
The exhibition was visited by personalities who participated in the 140th anniversary of the Albanian League of Prizren Academy, including the President of Albania, Mr. Ilir Meta, the Prime Minister Mr. Ramush Haradinaj, ministers and senior officials from all Albanian territories. The exhibition aroused great interest among public and media with hundreds of citizens visiting the exhibition during the day, where the CBK and BoA financial education officials as well as numismatic experts informed them on the importance of the content exhibited.
The exhibition will remain open until 12th of June.
