With the motto “Plan your finances, plant your future” for the 10th year in a row, the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo marked “International Money Week 2023”; this is a campaign, which is led and coordinated by the OECD, and 176 countries of the world participate.
Also this year, as in previous years, CBK organized various activities to increase information and financial knowledge among children and young people, and in particular, the focus of this week was the minorities living in Kosovo.
This year the “International Money Week” was held from 20 to 26 March 2023 and the activities organized by the CBK to mark this week are:
20 March, Pristina – The week was opened by the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo who held a lecture for the students of the High School “Sami Frashëri” in Prishtina. The governor spoke about the importance of financial education and the impact that financial education has on raising the well-being of citizens. The Governor talked to the students who addressed the Governor with various questions about the financial sector and money management. After that the students had the opportunity to listen to a detailed lecture on the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as had the opportunity to visit the building of the Central Bank of Kosovo.
On this occasion, the CBK has announced an Essay competition, dedicated to Kosovo high school students (grades X-XII) who can apply with one essay on the topic “Plan your finances, plant your future”.
21 March, Fushë Kosovë – Officials of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo visited the organization “The idea partnership” in Fushë Kosovë where they also developed the activity with the students of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. The students listened to a lecture by CBK officials about various topics relevant to their age, starting from personal finance management, behavior/relationship with financial institutions, savings, expense management, etc. The set of 5 Financial Education Books and other educational materials were distributed to the students.
22 March, Prizren – In the “Financial Education Center” of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, in Prizren, a group of students from the Bosnian community from LSS “Svjetlost” – Manastirice, were received. Students had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by CBK officials on: the value of money, the history of money; the importance of having a mean of exchange/trade acceptable to all; the role and functions of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo; the use of the euro in Kosovo, and many other topics of economic importance.
23 March, Prizren – Students of the Bosnian community from the “Ymer Prizreni” secondary economic school were welcomed at the “Financial Education Center” of the CBK, in Prizren. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the proper way to manage personal finances, the importance of keeping personal budget, financial goals, creating a genuine relationship with banks and other financial institutions.
They also discussed the role and importance of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo in the country’s economy, how the financial system works in Kosovo and many other relevant topics.
