Second-year students of the University for Business and Technology – UBT visited the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, and got informed of the CBK functioning and role in economic development of the country.
Arbërie Buçaj, Director of the Legal Department, made a presentation of the CBK path since its establishment, then transfer of competencies from international institutions to domestic ones and measures taken in order for the entire financial sector supervised by the CBK to operate in compliance with applicable rules.
“The primary objective of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo is to promote and maintain a stable financial system, including a safe, sustainable and efficient payment system. An additional objective, which is subordinated to the primary objective, is to contribute in achieving and maintaining domestic prices stability. The CBK also supports general economic policies of the Government and complies with the principle of open market economy with free competition. With regards to the laws in force, the CBK is responsible to license, regulate and supervise financial institutions, promote and oversee payment, clearing and securities settlement systems, and supply EUR banknotes and coins in Kosovo. The CBK also collects and produces statistics, informs the Assembly, the Government and general public of the Republic of Kosovo about its policies, tasks and operations, and acts as banker, financial advisor and fiscal agent for the Government”, stated Buçaj.
Professor of international law, Korab Sejdiu, thanked the CBK officers for the information provided, adding that they will be very useful for them in the future.
Students asked questions on the manner of insurance companies’ supervision and functioning of Credit Registry of Kosovo.
Also, Ajshe Ramosaj, Head of Financial Education, Protocol and Communication Division, stated that in addition to the lectures being organized within the Financial Education, the CBK provides also the Internship Program and the CBK Award to Young Economists, where all students have the chance to compete.
