Moto: “Manage your money wisely, build your future!”
The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, has traditionally become part of the celebration of Global Money Week since 2013. GMW of 2022 also found the CBK with a range of different educational-financial activities.
Through these activities, the CBK puts Kosovo in the international campaign on the importance of financial education, a campaign which is led and coordinated by the OECD, and attended by 170 countries around the world.
Consequently, this year, starting from 21 to 25 March 2022, the CBK conducted financial education activities for children and young people in several cities of Kosovo for different age groups, ranging from primary school students, secondary school students to university students.
The activities took place as follows:
21 March, Prishtina – The opening of the “Global Money Week 2022” took place in Kosovo, where Labinot Preniqi, Coordinator for General Functions at the CBK, spoke on Radio Television of Kosovo about the importance of financial education and financial inclusion, with a special focus on children and young people, about the activities with which the CBK will mark the GMW, and the relevant topics of the financial sector. To talk about the importance of financial education, as one of the most important components of the CBK’s functions in the spirit of disseminating knowledge related to the issues of financial education, financial inclusion, activities and organizations that the institution does, during the marking of this week, there was a presence in various media of the country where the Coordinator for General Functions was present, mainly discussing the role and importance of education and financial inclusion issues for all age groups.
Once again, for marking the GMW, the Central Bank has organized a competition for children of grades IV-V of Kosovo schools. In this competition participated students of Kosovo schools who, with their ideas and imagination, brought competitive works that were evaluated by a professional commission from the CBK.
On this occasion, on 21 March, the award ceremony of the competition of grades IV-V of primary schools in Kosovo “Manage your money wisely, build your future!” was held, where the five winning students of this competition were hosted at the CBK and received prizes for their evaluated works.
22 March, Prizren – In the “Financial Education Centre” of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, in Prizren, were received students of the 6th grade of the primary school “Loyola” of this municipality. Students had the opportunity to hear a lecture by CBK officials on: money value, money history; the importance of having a mutually acceptable exchange/trading mean; the role and functions of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo; the use of the euro in Kosovo, and many other topics of economic importance.
The activity took place mainly in the form of a conversation where the interest and curiosity of students to know more about financial and economic issues was very high.
23 March, Shtime – Officials of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo visited elementary school ”Emin Duraku” in Shtime, where they held the activity with students of the fourth grade of this school. Students listened to lectures by CBK officials on various topics relevant to their age, such as what does financial education mean, how important it is for students to be financially educated in the future, starting from personal financial management, behaviour/relationship with financial institutions, savings, cost management, etc. A set of 5 Financial Education Books and other educational materials were distributed to the students.
25 March, Gjakova – This year, the CBK has carried on its tradition in Gjakova, conducting lectures in public and private universities of Kosovo, on the occasion of marking the Global Money Week. On this occasion, the CBK team was welcomed by the academic staff and students of the University “Fehmi Agani“ in Gjakova, where a lecture was held for students of the Faculty of Education, in which case, the Advisor to the Governor at the CBK, Blerim Terziqi, spoke about the role and functions of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo in the economy of Kosovo, the structure and functioning of the financial sector in Kosovo, as well as other relevant topics. The lecture was welcomed by the students and took place in the form of conversation with many questions and requests addressed to various areas related to the financial sector.
