The CBK delegation represented by the Deputy Governor for Financial Supervision, Mr. Fehmi Mehmeti, together with representatives of the German GIZ, in Frankfurt, Germany, held separate meetings with representatives of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority – BaFin, i.e. Dr. Johannes Engels, Banking Supervisor for International Cooperation and the representative of Deutsche Bundesbank, Dr. Martin Pontzen, Director of the Technical Central Bank Cooperation.
In a meeting held at BaFin, Deputy Governor for Financial Supervision, Mr. Mehmeti, initially thanked Dr. Engels for his participation, in the role of the presenter in the Regional Conference organized by the CBK in collaboration with the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) on the “Initiative for the implementation of the second pillar of the Basel regulatory framework” ICCAP/SREP Introduction and Practical Example ". Mr. Mehmeti informed BaFin representatives on the recent developments in the Kosovo financial sector, as well as on processes the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo is engaged for alignment of the CBK legal and regulatory framework with Basel Standards and Principles and the European Union Directives.
Dr. Engels informed the CBK representatives on the history of BaFin, as well as cooperation between BaFin and Deutsche BundesBank in the supervision of the financial system in Germany. In a meeting with representatives of German BaFin they discussed the possibility for further deepening of cooperation between the two supervisory authorities.
At the same time, in a meeting held with representatives of Deutsche Bundesbank, the Deputy Governor for Financial Supervision Mr. Mehmeti thanked Mr. Pontzen for its participation and presentation at the Conference organized in Pristina, and informed him on the latest developments in the Kosovo financial sector. During the meeting, among others, was discussed also the participation of the CBK representatives in seminars and trainings organized by the Deutsche Bundesbank and the willingness to assist in organizing regional seminars and providing of experts in order to exchange experiences in various fields. Dr. Pontzen expressed his willingness to provide assistance in the development of reporting and analysis system, as well as in the field of processes documentation.
In the end, the Deputy Governor for Financial Supervision, Mr. Mehmeti thanked Dr. Engels and Dr. Pontzen for the productive meetings and expressed the CBK readiness for further cooperation between the supervisory authorities.
