Insurance and insurance supervision - recent developments and future outlook from an IAIS perspective

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to thank the Central Bank of Kosovo for organising this high-level conference and for inviting me to speak here. It is my pleasure to address this audience including senior representatives from government, central bank, supervisory authorities and the insurance industry.
On behalf of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), I very much appreciate the opportunity to speak here today about international supervisory and regulatory developments and the IAIS’ role in this respect. 
The recent financial crisis has put significant pressure on supervisors and regulators throughout the world.  At the same time, the crisis also provided us with a unique opportunity to learn from the experience and to think of more effective and globally consistent regulation and supervision of the insurance industry. If the environment is changing we might also have to change our approach in order to achieve our main goals, i.e. to develop and maintain fair, safe and stable insurance markets for the benefit and protection of policyholders and to contribute to the global financial stability... more
